Neuberg Diagnostics, a consortium of multiple pathology labs integrated by GSK Velu, has launched advanced laboratory facilities such as molecular diagnostics and Genomics testing at its Chennai division, Neuberg Ehrlich, on Saturday.
“I am happy to announce this cutting-edge facility in Neuberg Ehrlich lab. This regional centre of excellence in molecular diagnostics and genomics will be a path-breaking process,” said GSK Velu, Chairman, Neuberg Diagnostics.
The facility upgrade commemorates the 80th anniversary of Ehrlich lab, which was recently renamed Neuberg Ehrlich after it became part of the Neuberg Diagnostics group.
The new facility was launched by VK Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs and Overseas India Affairs, and C Vijaya Baskar, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Tamil Nadu.
Super-specialised laboratory practices such as proteomics, genomics, metabolomics, digital pathology and molecular diagnostics are indispensable to dealing with advanced ailments, Velu said. He, however, added that in India specialised laboratories operate in silos.
In a public-private partnership with the Tamil Nadu government, Neuberg Ehrlich has set up a newborn screening lab at the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children, Egmore, to screen babies for congenital hypothyroidism and congenital adrenal hyperplasia. “As a pilot study, we will screen around 77,000 newborns in Vellore district in the first year and the number will increase as per government instructions,” said Anand, Group CEO, Neuberg Diagnostics.
The new laboratory inauguration also saw the launch of Neuberg Anand Academy of Laboratory Medicine aimed at fostering research and for providing fellowship programme on super-speciality pathology techniques.
