The Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Friday launched a housing scheme for police personnel as part of her government’s resolve to provide dwelling units to all uniformed personnel.
Laying the foundation stone for construction of 2,673 multi-storeyed dwelling units under the first phase of “Own Your House” scheme at Melakottaiyoor in Kancheepuram district, she said the scheme will ensure every uniformed personnel lived in their own house either during service or after retirement.
Of the 1,12,363 police personnel in the State, housing facility had been provided to 50,424.
In addition, 7,526 dwelling units were under construction, she said.
