India’s first franchise-based professional football team Atlético de Kolkata, birth of which was announced exactly a month ago to participate in the Indian Super League, on Monday declared Antonio Lopez Habas as its coach.
Spanish footballer Luis Garcia, has been chosen as the team’s 'star player'. The club also unveiled its team jersey together with the official logo.
The club is the first international franchise of the Spanish club Atlético de Madrid. Atlético de Kolkata is run by the corporate entity Kolkata Games & Sports Pvt Ltd.
Apart from Atlético, former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, Chairman of Ambuja Neotia Group Harsh Neotia, Chairman RP Sanjiv Goenka Group Sanjiv Goenka and Chairman of SMIFS Capital Markets Utshav Parekh are the promoters of the new entity.
At an event here in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the club also launched its official Facebook fan page and other social media platforms.
The West Bengal Government would support Atlético de Kolkata in developing the right infrastructure of international standards, the Chief Minister has promised.
