These days PSU chiefs appear to be more open to criticising their PSU peers, and that too, in public. The Coal India CMD told journalists that the equipment supplied by Bharat Earth Movers Ltd was no good. BEML responded saying the equipment was no way inferior to that of any other company and that CIL wanted to give BEML a bad name, so that more orders could be placed on the private companies. More recently, the CMD of Neyveli Lignite Corporation said at a press conference that the power equipment supplier BHEL's “failure” was responsible for delays in many NLC projects. A new high in openness!
Loud silence
H. S. Goindi, President-Marketing, TVS Motor Company should have known better than to ask that question. He was at a function, jointly organised by Indian Bank and TVS Motor, for distributing TVS 3-wheelers auto-rickshaw drivers. Goindi asked them, “will you promise me that you will take care of your families,” and was rewarded by a resounding “yes”.
Then he asked them to promise that they would stop drinking. Total silence!
