FirstCry gets $26 million
San Francisco-headquartered Valiant Capital Partners has led a $26-million Series D investment in Brainbees Solutions Pvt Ltd, which owns the FirstCry.com , a leading baby- and kids-focussed e-commerce site in India. Existing investors IDG Ventures India, Vertex and SAIF Partners also participated in this round of financing. The company will use the money to expand across all channels – online, mobile and offline – and in the growth of its private label business.
CDC invests $25 m in Pristine
CDC, the UK’s development finance institution, will invest $25 million in Pristine Logistics, which develops and operates infrastructure to transport and handle railway freight in rural and under-served parts of India. The company focuses largely on Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
CarDekho raises $50 million
Girnar Software Pvt Ltd, which runs the auto portal CarDekho.com, has raised about ₹300 crore ($50 million) from Chinese investment management firm Hillhouse Capital and Hong Kong-based hedge fund Tybourne Capital. Existing investor Sequoia Capital also participated in this funding round. The company will use the money for brand building and marketing, besides innovating on the mobile app.
$2.5-m funding for Grabhouse.com
Grabhouse.com, a community-based exchange for finding rented accommodation, has raised $2.5 million in Series A funding from Kalaari Capital and Sequoia Capital. The money will be used to develop innovative products and improve the existing technology to enhance the end-user experience and increase its footprint across major cities. Grabhouse.com offers a broker-free and transparent experience to house hunters seeking rented or shared accommodation.
NowFloats raises Series A funding
NowFloats, a discovery platform for small and medium business, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Omidyar Network, with existing investors Blume Ventures, Mumbai Angels and Hyderabad Angels participating in the Series A round. The company will use the money to expand its global footprint and distribution platform and help customers access more online consumers. NowFloats enables local businesses get an online presence by creating local content, and managing and updating the online presence of its customers.
Zomato buys Mekanist of Turkey
Restaurant search service Zomato has bought Turkey’s restaurant discovery website Mekanist in an all-cash deal. This is Zomato’s seventh acquisition in the last six months. Zomato has been in Turkey for over a year and with the acquisition, it will cover over 50,000 restaurants across Turkey. The size of the deal was not disclosed.
Printvenue receives $4.5 million
Printvenue, a portal for printing and personalised products, has raised $4.5 million in funding from the Asia-Pacific Internet Group. The money will be used to expand the business within the Asia-Pacific region.
