This week, villages in Tamil Nadu's Sriperumbudur panchayat got lucky. As part of a ‘Happy Safe Villages’ project, World Vision India, along with Hyundai Steel, lit up four of its villages with 101 solar street lights.
For this, 60 volunteers from various Korean universities came to the State to map out the villages and help install the street lights.
“After the sun sets, the common areas in the villages are plunged into darkness, and people find it unsafe to step outside their homes. To overcome this, we came up with the initiative,” explained Chae Bong Suk, the Hyundai Steel President, at the inauguration. The happy project, however, involves more than just lighting.
It includes enhancing government school infrastructure and improving the health and environment for children.
