Nowhere does work overlap personal life as much as in one’s mobile phone. Android P, the next version of Google’s mobile operating system that is expected to be launched in Q3 of 2018, seeks to address this.

With Android P, users will be able to separate their personal apps from work apps quite clearly as Google has introduced a new dedicated work apps tab in Android app launcher. Work apps will also be identified by a distinctive blue briefcase badge so users will able to spot them more easily.

Interestingly, Android P also allows you to switch off from work notifications. There is a switch in the work tab that turns off work mode.

Giving Gmail a makeover

Google has just redesigned Gmail adding more AI elements so that business users spend less time on notifications. It’s also beefing up defences on the mail system.

For instance, it has added a confidential mode to prevent people from copying, forwarding, downloading and printing the emails you send them. Confidential mode emails expire within a specified time limit that you can set – one day, one week or one month.

Google has also transformed Tasks, a feature most people may not even have noticed, into an easy-to-access button.

Given the hue and cry over privacy, it makes sense for Google to work on making Gmail smarter and more secure.

Funds in the kitty

Bangalore-based HR tech startup Better Place, which is focused on the blue-collar workforce, has received $3 million in Series A funding led by 3one4Capital. Existing investors Venture Highway and Unitus Ventures too participated in the round.

Founded in 2015 by Pravin Agarwala and Uday Singh, the company helps manage the life cycle of a blue-collar worker from onboarding to background verification to training and assessment. It also helps employees get loans and insurance.

According to the founders, the funds will be used to add new solutions and expand to new verticals such as skilling, compliance, and fintech services.
