Buoyed by the robust growth in the food processing industry in the country, Ahmedabad-based Anil Group of companies is planning to increase its focus on the value-added segment by venturing into the nutraceuticals segment. The company plans to commission its greenfield facility at Halol near Vadodara in the next financial year.

“The value-added segment in the entire food processing industry offers maximum growth and so we will enter the nutraceuticals segment to harness the potential as this industry is still in its nascent stage in India,” said Darshan Mehta, Executive Director, Anil Bioplus Ltd, an arm of the Anil Group.

The company has increased its focus on production of Calcium Gluconate and Sodium Gluconate. According to Mehta, manufacturing of Gluconates is in line with the company’s policy of introducing new value-added products regularly. “The new greenfield capacity, which is expandable and has infrastructure that is USFDA approved, will also manufacture enzymes and citrates”, he added.

For increasing production of these Gluconates, the company has invested around Rs 150 crore in a greenfield plant that is coming up at Halol. The new facility would primarily be focusing on domestic and global market demand.

Calcium Gluconate is used as a source of calcium in veterinary and nutraceutical applications, while Sodium Gluconate is used in the construction and chemical industries.

As of now, the company provides a range of diverse products for end-user industries such as food & beverage, textiles, pharmaceuticals, paper. “Now with Gluconates we shall enter into the nutraceuticals industry as well,” said Mehta.

The company claims to be the only manufacturer of Calcium Gluconate in India through fermentation process and the only Indian manufacturer of Sodium Gluconate in the country.
