BEML Ltd, a defence public sector company, has set itself a goal of utilising 100 per cent renewable energy for its consumption. In this endeavour, the company has inaugurated a 200 KW grid connected rooftop solar project at its Mysore complex.
The project was inaugurated by Deepak Kumar Hota, Chairman & Managing Director, BEML, in the presence of B R Viswanatha, Director-Mining & Construction, BEML.
With the installation and commissioning of the rooftop solar project, BEML is inching towards achieving the target of using 100 per cent renewable energy for captive consumption.
To achieve 100 per cent renewable energy, BEML has sets up a 5 MW windmill project in Gadag district in north Karnataka. This project has been generating power since 2007. In addition, BEML has also set up an 18 MW windmill project at Koppal & Bagalkot districts, also in north Karnataka, whereby power from 9 MW windmill is already getting generated.
The balance 9 MW project is under commissioning. With this, the total commissioned renewable energy capacity will be 23.2 MW, which would meet the total power requirement of BEML.
