Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has commissioned second 800 mw supercritical boiler at Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Plant of AP Genco at Krishnapatnam in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.

This is the second 800 mw unit and also the highest rated indigenous boiler to be commissioned in the country. The first 800 mw unit was commissioned earlier by BHEL at the same project on August 28, 2014.

The commissioning of the two 800 mw boilers at Krishnapatnam is seen as an important development in the country seeking to achieve self reliance in supercritical technology and demonstrates BHEL’s capability in this area.

According to a statement from BHEL filed with BSE, the scope of the work in the project envisaged is expected to comprise of manufacture, supply, erecting, testing and commissioning of the boilers and associated auxiliaries including electrostatic precipitators.

The key equipment for the project has been manufactured by BHEL at its Trichy, Hyderabad, Ranipet and Bengaluru plant. The construction was undertaken by the company’s Southern region unit.

The power equipment major has so far contracted 36 sets of supercritical boilers out of which four boilers have been commissioned and rest are in various stages of execution. These orders include from Central, State sectors and private developers.

BHEL is also working on indigenously developing advanced ultra supercritical technology in league with NTPC and IGCAR.
