Isuzu Motors India launched the 'mu-X' premium full size 7-seater sport utility vehicle (SUV) on Thursday.

The 2999 cc vehicle will be available in two variants in India. The 4x2 variant will be available at ₹23.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The 4x4 variant will be sold at ₹25.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The SUV is powered by a 3.0-litre diesel Isuzu engine that churns out a maximum power of 177 PS (130 kW). An official statement said that the engine provides a maximum torque of 380 Nm and is designed with a significant flat torque. The mu-X will be built at Isuzu’s new manufacturing plant at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh. The company claims a mileage of 13.8 km per litre under ideal test conditions.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Managing Director, Isuzu Motors India, Hitoshi Kono, said, “The Indian market for SUVs is now coming of age…We are confident the mu-X will set a new benchmark for full size premium SUVs in India.”

The mu-X will be going head-to-head with the likes of similarly sized large vehicles. The car is equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), 4 Channel 4 Sensor ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) with EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution), and sensors that monitor driving conditions.

In the current price band, the ‘mu-X’ is dearer than similarly sized vehicles such as the Tata Hexa (top model priced at ₹17.66 lakh), Toyota Innova Crysta (top model priced at ₹21.40 lakh) and Mahindra XUV500 (top model at ₹18.67 lakh).

In the ‘premium SUV’ category, Isuzu’s offering is cheaper than the Toyota Fortuner (top model at ₹31.86 lakh) and the Ford Endeavour (top model at ₹31.50 lakh).
