Auto major Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) has rejigged its top deck by redesignating Anand Mahindra as Executive Chairman and elevating Pawan Goenka as Managing Director. Mahindra’s appointment is for five years and that of Goenka for four years, both effective November 12.

“This is in line with the practice followed by companies across the Mahindra Group, where the position of Managing Director or CEO is distinct from that of the chairman,” M&M said in a statement.

Goenka, who is currently Executive Director and Group President (auto and farm sector), will continue to report to Anand Mahindra and the company’s board.

At present, Mahindra is the Group Chairman and Managing Director.

As executive chairman, Mahindra will continue to oversee, and be responsible for the growth strategies of the company and its portfolio of investments, the statement added.

Goenka joined M&M as general manager R&D in 1993 from General Motors Corp. and was instrumental in growing the R&D capability of the company and also the launch of its SUV Scorpio.
