Premium online tea brand Vahdam Teas has raised $650,000 from angel investors including Kanwaljit Singh’s Fireside Ventures, Mumbai Angels, Singapore Angel Network, Anand Ladsariya and Ajay Pandey.
Bala Sarda, founder, Vahdam Teas, says: “The absence of a home-grown brand had led to a massive dependence of the entire industry on foreign brands, which quickly move to teas from other regions when local farmers increase their price. It was then that I decided to take the plunge with Vahdam Teas.”
Vahdam Teas has already shipped Darjeeling and other teas to more than 76 countries, and will use the funds to focus on marketing, product development and opening a warehouse in the US.
Kanwaljit Singh of Fireside Ventures says: “This is a great business opportunity, and Bala, with his family’s heritage in the tea business, is the ideal entrepreneur to realise it.”
