Yasar Shah, Uttar Pradesh Minister for Commercial Taxes, received the keys of the first set of Metro rolling stock for Lucknow metro rail project on Friday, at the Alstom factory premises in Sri City.
Alstom has been entrusted with job of supplying metro train-sets and a signalling solution for the new metro network for Lucknow city.
Shah inspected and gave a formal clearance for the despatch of the coaches in the presence of Alexandre Domingues, Vice-President (Operations) for Asia Pacific, Alstom; and Bharat Salhotra, Managing a Director of Alstom Transport India.
Alstom has been manufacturing metro cars for domestic needs as well as for exports in tune with the ‘Make in India’ strategy. It made inroad not only into the Indian metro projects at Chennai, Kochi and now Lucknow, but also into Sydney metro.
Contract terms In September 2015, Alstom was awarded a contract worth over €150 million by Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation to provide metro train sets and a signalling solution for the new metro network.
Under this contract Alstom will supply 20 Metropolis train sets, each composed of four metro cars.
Each car will be fitted with air conditioning and a passenger information system for a high level of passenger comfort. Alstom will also provide Urbalis, its communication-based Train Control solution, which controls the movement of the trains, enabling them to run at higher frequencies and speeds in total safety.
