The total corpus of the pension fund as on March 31, 2013 stood at Rs 1,83,405.36 crore. In 2012-13, the employers contributed Rs 14,734.01 crore and Rs 1,400 crore, respectively, to the fund, the Minister of State for Labour, K Suresh, told the Lok Sabha in a written reply on Monday.

 

However, to meet the requirements of enhanced minimum pension of Rs 1,000/month, the Finance Ministry had agreed to provide budgetary support for 2014-15 on an actual basis amounting to Rs 1,217. 03 crore with the stipulation that further adjustment shall be made based on an actual variation and subject to certain conditions, he added. He said necessary action for soliciting requisite approval was underway.

 

About 29 lakh pensioners, getting a measly amount ranging from Rs 150 to Rs 800/month under the Employees Pension Scheme, 1995 and Employees Family Pension Scheme, 1971 stand to benefit once the pension is enhanced.
