Even as on-demand ride sharing apps are becoming an essential mode of daily transport in the metros, a rider in Bengaluru has created a record by taking 3,135 rides in a year, which is about 8 rides per day on Uber.

The San Francisco-based taxi-hailing app has released some interesting global data-backed insights on how riders and drivers preferred Uber over other taxi apps globally.

The company, which entered the Indian market about three years ago, said in a statement, “Riders were busy, too! The most trips taken by a single rider globally was 3,135 trips, taken by a rider in Bengaluru, India. That’s about 8 trips per day!”. However, Uber declined a request from BusinessLine to disclose the identity and professional and financial profile of the rider due to its privacy policy.

These kind of data also assumes importance for Uber at a time when it is pitched head-on with arch-rival Ola, the largest among the taxi aggregators in India. Ola recently accused Uber of “capital dumping” in the Indian market to get a competitive advantage.

Few other interesting data that Uber released were -- a driver partner Bengaluru took 4,338 trips this year alone. This was followed by 3,775 trips by a driver partner in New Delhi and 3,624 trips by a driver partner in Mumbai.

“When it comes to getting around your city, Uber clearly emerged as the obvious choice for riders world over -- whether it was to get to that special event, across town for a family dinner, or around a new city on the other side of the world. We would like to thank our riders and drivers for the journeys. We found some very interesting trends in 2016, including, that of a rider in Bengaluru, India, who took almost 3,135 trips, making it the highest number of rides taken by a single rider, globally. Uber On!,” said Amit Jain, President, Uber India and South Asia, in a statement.

Uber has stepped up its investments in the Indian market following its exit from China and has been aggressivley expanding its services such as UberPool, UberMoto, UberDost, UberFleet and Dial an Uber, among few others.

Uber also recently revamped its rider app that now shows the exact location on the app and helps consumers book a cab in just one tap. The company has been working on reducing its ETA (estimated time of arrival) to less than 5 minutes, with over 90 per cent of the trips reporting an ETA of less than 10 minutes.

The company also has undertaken several entrepreneurial initiatives for drivers to create about one million micro-entrepreneurs by 2018. With these intitatives, India has become a strong market for the company, it said, claiming that it is the largest market outside the US, which accounts for 12 per cent of all Uber trips globally.
