Cotton prices at Erode markets decreased despite poor arrival. “The cotton harvest is nearing completion in Kolathur, Ammapet and other places in the district and its surrounding areas.
So the arrival to the Bhoodapady Regulated Market Committee (RMC) has decreased. But the price of the fibre decreased. The demand for the cotton in all areas was high but the arrival was too low,” said a spokesperson of the RMC. At the RMC the Bt cotton was sold at ₹4,700-5,000 a quintal on Wednesday evening. This is ₹400 less than last week’s price.
All the 315 quintals (882 bags) placed for sale were sold. But in the Anthiyur RMC, the cotton went for ₹5,300 a quintal due to poor arrivals.
