Hybrid turmeric prices improved on Wednesday following good demand. “On Wednesday, more than 500 bags of quality hybrid finger variety turmeric arrived for sale. The commodity fetched increased price. The traders also bought local root variety at increased prices,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

Traders are expecting fresh orders from North India after Vinayagar Chathurthi.

On Wednesday, of the 4,000 bags offered for sale, 1,920 bags were sold. The price of hybrid finger turmeric was raised by ₹800 a quintal and of the hybrid root by ₹200. The prices of other local varieties of turmeric fell by ₹200 due to arrival of medium and poor quality.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,240-6,269 a quintal, root variety at ₹4,009-6,224.

Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,911-7,809 a quintal, root variety at ₹5,510-6,400. Of the arrival of 993 bags, 192 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,139-6,009 a quintal, root variety at ₹5,016-6,319. Of the 806 bags placed for sale, 626 were sold.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,499-6,219 a quintal, root variety at ₹5,400-6,221. All the 599 bags offered for sale were sold.

At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, finger turmeric fetched ₹5,591-6,281, root variety ₹5,396-6,222. Of the arrival of 227 bags, 215 were sold.
