Private lenders Axis Bank and ICICI Bank maintained their firm undertone on the NSE in late trading on Tuesday. At 3.30 pm Axis Bank led the pack on the bourse, quoting at Rs 592.10. This represented a gain of 4.77 per cent on its previous close at Rs 565.15.
ICICI Bank gained 3.45 per cent to trade at Rs 383.50. The share had closed the previous session at Rs 370.70. Today was the first trading day of the week, with the markets shut for the Republic Day holiday yesterday.
The market continued its uptrend on sustained capital flows and positive sentiment generated by quarterly earnings and expectations of the upcoming Budget. The BSE Sensex gained nearly 300 points to perch above the 29,500-level,while the NSE Nifty gained over 70 points to trade above the 8,900-level.
Cipla extended its firm run on the markets to trade at Rs 707.05. This represented a gain of 4.34 per cent on its previous close at Rs 677.65.
Asian Paints traded firm to make further gains by the close. It was trading at Rs 890.50 as against Rs 862.10 at close on Friday. This was a gain of 3.29 per cent.
ITC was up 3.06 per cent at Rs 360.15. The share had closed the previous session at Rs 349.45.
