The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday directed issue of notices to the Centre and State Governments, Reliance Industries , Director-General of Hydrocarbons and CBI on the allocation gas fields in the KG basin, gas pricing mechanism and related issues.

Hearing a public interest litigation filed by Palem Srikanth Reddy, Convenor of the Janapaalana Party, the division bench of Justice Rohini and T Sunil Chowdhary has posted the case for April 2.

The Union Power Secretary, AP Secretary of Energy, Union Secretary of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Director General of Hydrocarbons, RIL and CBI have been made respondents along with MDs of AP Genco and AP Transco and political parties TDP, BJP, Congress and YSR Congress.

In his petition, Reddy sought probe into the KG Basin gas allocation to RIL and the company's alleged attempts to scuttle the chances of the State to get gas from this source.

Many gas-based power plants in the State are lying idle without gas supplies and consumers.

Lack of gas has forced the State to purchase power at high prices which is passed on to consumers, he said.

A Post-Graduate in Engineering from Stanford University and based in Hyderabad, he is the founder of IT company Four Soft. Reddy recently floated the social organisation, Janapaalana.

Reddy told Business Line this was a matter of serious concern for the State and the entire nation and needs to be probed.
