The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, will formally release Godavari river water into Krishna today to pave way for linking of the two rivers.
This is seen as a major development in drought-proofing the State.
A big programme has been scheduled to be held at Ibrahimpatnam village near Vijayawada in the presence of senior Cabinet colleagues and farmers.
The Chief Minister had said in Vijayawada last night that the State has created history by completing the Krishna-Godavari link project to divert water from river Godavari to Krishna in a record five-and-a-half months.
The Pattiseema lift irrigation project was conceived for supply of Godavari water by linking it with the Krishna basin.
Water from Godavari gets pumped and linked to Krishna at the Prakasham barrage.
Along with this project, the Government plans to execute the Polavaram project which effectively would fully link up both the rivers and use surplus water for both the delta region and Rayalaseema.
