Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has bagged the Green Award 2016-17 from the Tamil Nadu government for its sustainable and environment-friendly manufacturing operations. HMIL was declared winner after a multi-stage screening process from among many industries across the State. YK Koo, the company’s MD & CEO, received the award from Chief Minister K Palaniswami on October 11, according to a statement.
“This is the second time we have been chosen for this top distinction. Keeping in line with international standards, we proactively introduce several green initiatives at our plant on a regular basis,” said Koo.
HMIL’s green manufacturing initiatives include rainwater storage ponds, increase green cover on campus, RO plant, effluent water treatment plant, LED lamps, increasing the green cover, a RTO system (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer), a first-of-its kind in the auto industry to control the VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) emission amongst others.
