The Dharwad-headquartered Karnataka Vikas Grameen Bank (KVGB) has enrolled highest number of farmers under the crop insurance schemes of the Centre, according to S Ravindran, Chairman.

The bank, which covered 10.23 lakh farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), remitted a premium of ₹27.22 crore. It also covered around 2.04 lakh farmers under the Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS) and remitted a premium of ₹12.50 crore. Ravindran said that the bank stood first in Karnataka among all other banks with respect to the number of farmers enrolled under PMFBY and WBCIS.

The bank operates in 57 taluks of nine districts in the State. The districts are: Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada.

A press release said here on Wednesday that the bank bagged three SKOCH awards for initiatives in digitalisation, technology development and agricultural insurance. Ravindran received the award from Sameer Kochhar, Chairman of SKOCH Group in Mumbai.

The bank has converted 15 villages under its area of operation as 100 per cent digital villages. More than 50,000 people are using the mobile app of the bank. It said that KVGB has issued 17 lakh RuPay cards to its customers.

The bank has been operating two mobile ATMs to meet the needs of villagers in remote areas, the release added.
