The Airport Advisory Committee of Mangaluru International Airport has stressed the need for extending the runway length from the existing 8,300 ft to 10,000 ft.

The meeting, convened by JT Radhakrishna, Airport Director, Mangaluru International Airport, highlighted the need for acquiring land for the extension of runway.

The meeting was also informed that this issue is pending with the State government since 2012.

Other infrastructure development works such as the construction of parallel taxiway and expansion of terminal building were reviewed at the meeting. These works have already been sanctioned by the Airports Authority of India.

The advisory committee also discussed the need to introduce new airlines to Mangaluru and to operate buses between the airport and the city by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP from Dakshina Kannada, who presided over the meeting, lauded the airport administration for earning a net profit of ₹5.46 crore during 2015-16.

A press release by Mangaluru International Airport said here that the Commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation, HN Gopalakrishna; the president of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rammohan Pai Maroor; the MLA from Moodbidri, Abhayachandra Jain; and representatives of various airlines and tourist taxi drivers’ association attended the meeting.
