As the state assembly polls get closer, the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress are throwing their weight for the campaigning even as the Election Commission of India (EC) is likely to announce the poll dates in a week or so.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been visiting his poll-bound home state more frequently than ever, would once again visit the State for several public events including visiting his home town Vadnagar to inaugurate a medical college and hospital during October 7-8.

During his stay in the State, the Prime Minister will then fly to Dwarka to lay the foundation stone for a landmark infrastructure project connecting Okha on the Gujarat coast with Bet Dwarka - an island in the Arabian Sea. The primary itinerary shows that Modi will also visit Rajkot to lay the foundation stone for International Airport at the city before moving to South Gujarat for another infrastructure project for Bhaddbhut weir in Bharuch District.

Last month, in September, Modi had visited Gujarat twice - first during the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's visit and second on his birthday to dedicate the Sardar Sarovar Project to the Nation.

Interestingly, Congress vice president, Rahul Gandhi is also scheduled to start second leg of the four-leg 'Navsarjan Yatra', from Central Gujarat on October 9. Rahul will stay in the State for three days as he did in Saurashtra during the last week of September. On his first Navsarjan Yatra covering several districts of Saurashtra, Rahul attempted a direct connect with the youth, cotton and groundnut farmers and women in rural parts of the region. On the second leg, he will connect with cooperative leaders in Central Gujarat, which is a hub of milk cooperatives.
