Fed up with waiting endlessly after ordering food in a canteen? Some students of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) at Surathkal in Mangaluru taluk have found a solution for it with an app to pre-order food in canteens within their campus.

Their start-up, WayFoo.com, offers a mobile app that helps students to pre-order food in three of the canteens on the NITK campus, saving them time.

Gautamdev Chowdary, CEO and co-founder of WayFoo.com, told BusinessLine that users can order food from classrooms or hostel rooms. By the time they reach the canteen, the food will be ready, he said.

Stating that it will also help the canteen operators, he said they don’t have to keep a person exclusively to receive food orders on phone now. Around 120-130 orders are placed daily through this app now.

Users can also pay for their orders using online payment options incorporated in the application, he said. Chowdary, along with Sabari Ram (co-founder) and Amit Wadatkar (chief technology officer) launched WayFoo on NITK campus four months ago. The founders did beta run for it for three months.

Asked about the revenue source, Chowdary said right now the start-up is charging 1 per cent of the order amount from the canteen owners.

The start-up is being incubated at the Science and Technology Entrepreneurs’ Park (STEP) of NITK.
