The US imported nearly $4.1 billion worth food and agricultural products from India during 2015, according to U.S. Census Bureau trade data.
In contrast, the US exported $1.3 billion of food and agricultural products during the same period, said Adam Branson, US Department of Agriculture’s representative in Mumbai.
In efforts to boost its exports further, the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service is organising a ‘Table Top Trade Exhibition’ in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The event will aim to introduce Indian hoteliers, restaurateurs and food retailers to some lip-smacking and healthy American food and beverage products.
Consumer-oriented and high-value food products like tree nuts/dried fruit, peanut-based snacks, peas and lentils, and barbeque sauces shall be displayed at the event. Visitors to this event will get to taste many of the products and delicacies made from these ingredients, a press release said.
Similar events were organised earlier in Pune, Chandigarh, and Kolkata. Exhibitors will also discuss nutrition information and health benefits of some exclusive products such as blueberries, prunes, and walnuts.
USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service facilitates commercial exchanges between American agricultural businesses and food and beverage importers/local buyers.
