POABS Group, a player in organic farming, has received Rain Forest Alliance Certification from Sustainable Agriculture Network for its tea plantations at Vandiperiyar.

The Rainforest Alliance Certification is an authentic measure of standards that has to be followed strictly. It will be audited and validated against 10 specific parameters set by the network.

The parameters include ecosystem conservation, wildlife protection, and fair treatment and good working conditions for plantation workers, their families and the communities they belong to.

Bhasi Iype, Executive Director, POABS Group, told reporters here that buying products of Rain Forest Alliance Certified plantations supports a healthier planet. A farm, to get the Rainforest Alliance Certification, has to be evaluated by authorised auditors of the network and must get a rating of at least 80 per cent overall.

Certified farms are re-evaluated every year by local auditors who focus on correcting problem areas which were noticed during the previous audit.

POABS Tea is the latest addition in the group’s portfolio of products which comprises organic green tea, organic coffee, organic spices and organic honey.

The Rainforest Alliance is an international non profit organisation that works to conserve biodiversity and improve livelihoods by promoting and evaluating the implementation of the globally respected sustainability standard in diverse areas.
