US slaps duties on Indian steel bars

The US Department of Commerce has announced duties on stainless steel bars imported from India justifying that these were being sold or were likely to be sold at less than fair value in this country and were thus likely to harm domestic steel producers. The Department of Commerce in an official notification on August 4, directed the US Customs Service to suspend the liquidation of all stainless steel bars from India from warehouses for consumption from the date of the notification for an indefinite period. The Customs Service was also instructed to obtain a cash deposit or a bond equivalent to the preliminary dumping duty for any withdrawals of steel bars from the warehouse.
