This week’s issue focuses on celebrity endorsements. Here are a few more instances of stars of all stripes being sued for endorsements. It was reported in 2010 that a customer called Hemendra Singh found out his dealer would not replace his Samsung cell phone for being defective while still in the warranty period, he sued Aamir Khan for endorsing it.

His reasoning: He bought the phone only because he was a big fan of the actor. According to a report, a Samsung executive promised to replace the phone. In 2012, Hollywood star Kirstie Alley had to settle with a customer who filed a class action suit against her association with Organic Liaison’s weight-loss programme and products. In 2010, reality show Biggest Loser star and fitness expert Jillian Michaels was sued for $10 million, along with Thin Care International, maker of Triple Process Total Body Detox & Cleanse, for conspiring to hide the dangers of the product. Michaels had been sued in three other cases too but all were dismissed. Celebrity sisters Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian had to face a $5 million lawsuit, later dismissed, for making false claims about diet drug QuickTrim, which they endorsed.
