Ambuja Cement, which launched its fifth knowledge centre in Gujarat recently, on Tuesday said it would train 18,000 masons and 15,000 contractors in certified construction courses by 2020.

Aiming to provide services beyond manufacturing cement, the company’s Customer Support Group (CSG) is offering technical assistance and value-added services for customers, masons and construction professionals, including architects, civil engineers and project managers, an official said here.

So far, Ambuja has provided certified courses to 3,000 masons and 2,200 contractors in Gujarat, Umesh Soni, Corporate Head, CSG, said.

The Neev Abhiyaan programme by the CSG provides formal training for skill building of masons, contractors and supervisors.

Ambuja Cements, which began operations in Gujarat in 1983, has its mother plant at Kodinar, producing 5 million tonnes of cement now. The company’s innovative modular curing technique has already helped save 7 million litres of water in Gujarat and 18 million litres nationally, since it was launched in 2012, he said.

Ambuja Cement currently has five integrated manufacturing plants and eight cement grinding units across the country. Its current cement-making capacity is 27.25 million tonnes. It is the first Indian cement manufacturer to build a captive port with three terminals along the country’s western coastline and to have its own fleet of ships.
