TUV Rheinland, a global technical, safety and certification services provider, will focus on materials testing over the next two-three years.

One area will be in non-destructive technology, which is in demand, especially in the construction sector.

Having invested around ₹100 crore in its India operations over the last four years, the Germany-headquartered company is also looking for an acquisition in the NDT space, said its Director, M Bhaskar.

The company signed its first acquisition agreement in India with the Kochi-based NIFE (National Institute of Fire Education) early this year.

“We are expanding operations across the country. At present, NIFE presence is in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. We will take it to locations we are strong in,” Bhaskar told Business Line recently.

Training in fire safety NIFE, which has a training academy and undertakes vocational training in fire safety, also eyes the Gulf countries. It will now be called the TUV Rheinland NIFE Academy.

Vocational courses with practical training to meet safety needs of industry, hospitality, hotels, hospitals and so on, would be offered.

Having started India operations with software testing in Bangalore, TUV Rheinland India has strengthened its presence in industrial services, mobility, production testing and certification and solar. It has established facilities in Bangalore and Delhi-Gurgaon, and a small testing centre in Pune.

Talking about the prospects in the two States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Bhaskar said in Hyderabad the centre offers ISO 9000 certification and is eyeing IT companies.

“We are looking at Nellore and Vizag in AP where manufacturing and pharma, chemical activity is picking up. There are plans to offer REACH-compliance services for chemical industry in Visakhapatnam,” said Bhaskar.

REACH is applicable for all product and chemical exporters to the European Union. Since most EU countries introduced country-specific laws to implement REACH with penalties and imprisonment for non-compliance, it is important for the manufacturer to comply with this new regulation, he explained.
