Ashok Leyland Ltd has secured an order for 50 vestibule buses from Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation valued at $6 million.
The order was bagged under the Indian Line of Credit scheme provided for the improvement of urban transportation in Bangladesh and represents Ashok Leyland’s first export order for such buses, the company said in a statement.
Bangladesh is an important market for Ashok Leyland and till now it had exported more than 9,500 vehicles of different models to that country.
Last year, it secured the biggest single order for 290 double-decker buses valued at $23.3 million from the country, which helped boost the company’s exports to a new high of 12,852 vehicles, a 25 per cent growth.
Mr Vinod K. Dasari, MD, A, said the new export order to Bangladesh would help the company achieve the goal of becoming one of the top ten truck and top five bus manufacturers globally.
