Ashok Leyland’s net profit in the second quarter of the current year more than doubled over that of the corresponding quarter in the previous year.
Continuing recovery in commercial vehicle sales has contributed to the growth.
The Hinduja group company has reported a net profit of ₹287 crore (₹121 crore) on a revenue of ₹4,940 crore (₹3,218 crore) for the quarter ended September 30, 2015.
Sales volumes have grown in medium and heavy commercial vehicles and light commercial vehicles. Sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles jumped 64 per cent during the quarter at 29,884 units (18,207 units) and light commercial vehicles increased to 7,497 units (7,172 units).
The release quoting Vinod K Dasari, Managing Director, the market for commercial vehicles is back after a long downturn. The performance was also aided by the company’s focus on customer, cost control and reigning-in discounts.
