Camera maker, Canon India, is training its lens on Bollywood and Tollywood.

While the rupee slide has severely dented its bottom line for its non-camera products, the company is now exploring the ‘glamorous’ side of India to launch its first movie camera here.

It may introduce its latest model of movie camera, C 300, in the Indian market later this year.

“We are currently studying the potential for the camera in the Indian film industry, including regional film industry. The product will be the first of its kind in the Indian market,” Mr Alok Bharadwaj, Senior Vice-President of the company, told Business Line.

He was in Hyderabad to launch the company’s 65th Canon Image store.

The product, which has been launched in Hollywood, is a hand-held video camera, with HD movie capturing features. Unlike the existing movie cameras having fixed lenses in India, this product provides the facility of changing the lens.

“It comes with a combination of 60 lenses. The product may be priced at Rs 11 lakh,” Mr Bharadwaj said.

In March, the company had unveiled 15 compact cameras, including some with wi-fi capability. “Usually, we have two launches in a year. The next launch will be in October,” he said.

On the impact of rupee slide, Mr Bharadwaj said: “this has been a big disappointment. It made a huge impact on our bottom line.”
