Parry Sugar Industry Ltd today said its net profit for the quarter ended March 31, 2011 declined by nearly 22 per cent to Rs 12.51 crore.

The company had reported a net profit of Rs 15.97 crore for the corresponding period of the previous year, it said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

However, the total income of the company in the January—March quarter rose by 12.23 per cent to Rs 141.36 crore as compared to Rs 125.95 crore in the year—ago period.

The total expenditure of the company also increased by almost six per cent to Rs 115.36 crore as against Rs 108.88 crore in the same period of the previous year.

The Bangalore based company is a subsidiary of EID Parry (India) Ltd, with a combined crushing capacity of 5,000 tonnes of cane per day (TCD).

Shares of the company today closed at Rs 134.40 on the BSE, down by 3.24 per cent from its previous close.
