Former Shipping Corporation of India chairman and managing director S Hajara has joined ship operation and maintenance company Doehle Danautic India as the chief advisor on the board.
Hajara will be responsible for mergers and acquisitions, financial planning, budgeting, cash management, investor relations, corporate secretarial functions and fiscal management policies, the company said in a statement on Monday.
Hajara, a chemistry graduate who did his post graduation from IIM Calcutta, had served as the CMD of SCI for over seven years before retiring on December 31, 2012.
The state-run Navratna company has been having a tough time for the past two years due to a supply glut. There was also high ordering by the company aimed at reducing its average age of vessels which has made doing business tougher for the company.
