Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) expects significant growth in its domestic truck sales during this calendar year, based on strong momentum gained with the BS-IV transition.

DICV, which is celebrating five years of its Indian truck brand BharatBenz, has gained doubled double-digit market share in the recent months.

The company has secured Number 3 position in the heavy truck segment, according to a statement.

“Customer demand has been particularly strong in the 16-49 tonnes segment, further extending our position as the clear Number 3 in heavy-duty trucks. We have, thus, taken the next step and moved to two-shift operations at our Oragadam manufacturing plant near Chennai,” said Erich Nesselhauf, Managing Director and CEO, DICV.

The increase in output will also cater to expected further growth in DICV’s export business, in which the company has sold more than 10,000 trucks since 2013 and will serve 40 markets by the year-end.

To commemorate its fifth anniversary, DICV has introduced Euro-V ready medium duty trucks. “We led the transition to the BS-IV standard, and we are proud to hand over to customers Euro-V ready trucks today. Improvements of air quality beyond the BS-IV levels can be achieved immediately,” said Nesselhauf.

In Euro-V trucks, Nitrogen oxide (NOx), a major source of air pollution, emissions are reduced by more than 40 per cent compared to BS-IV.

DICV has sold more than 55,000 trucks in the Indian markets since the launch in September 2012.

It has set up more than 130 touch points across the country.

In 2016, it sold more than 13,000 trucks in the Indian market
