The domestic airlines have been asked by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to ensure that the fares being charged by them are within the price band as informed to the airlines watchdog.
Every airline is required to publish the price band on the first day of every month on their Web site.
Discrepancies
Sources told Business Line that all the domestic airlines have been asked to ensure that “no discrepancies” are there in the fares which are being charged and their published price band.
The directions from the DCGA come at a time when discrepancies have been noticed in the fares displayed on the airlines' Web site and what has been filed with the DGCA.
Online display
The DGCA has approved a maximum fare level for the routes on which the airlines operate.
The airlines have been asked to display the maximum and the minimum fares being charged on all the sectors that they operate domestically on their Web site.
The domestic airlines in the country include Air India, Kingfisher, Jet Airways, IndiGo and Spice Jet.
It could not be ascertained as to which sectors and which airlines were charging more than the prescribed limit.
Sources said no notice has been served to the airlines so far.
