The 40-year-old branch of ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) in Mangalore will soon get a new building to meet the needs of its members and students.

Mr Chandramohan K.Y., Chairman of the Mangalore branch of ICAI, said that the Mangalore branch has proposed a new building with latest facilities at Alape-Padil area in Mangalore.

This will help provide more service to its members and students.

The foundation stone will be laid on September 1 in the presence of Mr G. Ramaswamy, President of ICAI; Mr Jaydeep Narendra Shah, Vice-President of ICAI; Mr Krishna Palemar, Karnataka Ports Minister; and Mr N. Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

On the proposed new building, he said the building measuring 15,000 sq ft will have various facilities for the benefit of its members and students.

There will be a 300-seat auditorium.

The other facilities include four classrooms a computer centre with provision for housing 100 computers, library, board room and office room.

The total project cost is estimated at Rs 2 crore.

The head office of the ICAI has already released Rs 50 lakh as the first instalment for the construction of the building, he said.

Founded in 1971, the Mangalore branch covers 450 members in Mangalore, Mulki, Moodbidri, Puttur, Sullia, Madikeri and Bantwal areas in Karnataka, and Kasaragod and Kanhangad in Kerala.

Mr Chandramohan said that the branch provides regular coaching classes for CPT (Common Proficiency Test), IPCC (Integrated Professional Competence Course) / PCC (Professional Competence Course) and CA final students.

Most of these classes are conducted by professional CAs with hands-on practical experience.

He said that 2,339 students are benefitted by this branch.
