Global models are of the view that there is scope for another western disturbance, weaker in intensity than some of the peers in the recent past, to cross into northwest India and trigger isolated to scattered showers over the plains during the week ending March 10 (Thursday next).

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has, on the other hand, said in an outlook that the day temperatures might start to look up by 2 to 4 deg Celsius from Monday.

Fairly widespread rain or snowfall was reported over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh during the day until yesterday (Wednesday) evening as a causative western disturbance prevailing over the region dictated weather. Scattered rainfall fell over Punjab and isolated over Haryana and east Madhya Pradesh.

Lying spread over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir by the night, the westerly system is expected to continue to affect the hills and adjoining plains of northwest India until the weekend, the IMD said.

The western disturbance has also induced the formation of an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Rajasthan and neighbourhood.

Meanwhile, as expected, the clouding whipped up by a counterpart upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal has ducked below the peninsular Indian latitudes after being steered by the northeasterlies blowing across the Bay of Bengal.

Earlier, northwesterlies associated with the western disturbance had blocked its path towards the southeast peninsula.

Meanwhile, the IMD has warned of isolated heavy rain or snow over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand today (Thursday) and tomorrow.

Over the plains, isolated hailstorms or thunder squalls may occur over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh during this period as the western disturbance comes to terms with its own.
