Buying by blenders lifted tea prices, especially good liquoring varieties, at the Kochi tea auctions this week.

The market for popular varieties was fully firm to dearer, while others were irregular and easier, following quality in sale no 3. The quantity on offer in the CTC dust grades was 13,45,789 kg and the average price was Rs 125.12/kg. While upcountry buyers lent fair support, export demand was confined to plainer varieties.

The market for orthodox varieties remained barely steady and tended to ease. It also witnessed some withdrawals. The quantity on offer was 6,000 kg.

In the Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched Rs 126-172, mediums quoted Rs 98-137, and plain grades stood at Rs 88-99.

In the leaf category, the market for select best Nilgiris in orthodox varieties was firm to dearer across the board. There was active support from exporters to CIS countries. The quantity on offer was 3,41,601 kg.

In CTC leaf, the market for brokens was barely steady and tended to ease, while Fannings appreciated in value. The quantity on offer was 74,000 kg. The average price realised was lower at Rs 143/kg, compared to Rs 144.53/kg in the previous week.

Monica SFD quoted the best price of Rs 172 in the dust grades, while P’s Woodlands – Hyson Sup (Green Tea) came to the top in the leaf grades, quoting R302.
