Sunday’s depression has weakened to a well-marked low-pressure area, but the India Met Department (IMD) has put out a watch for a fresh low-pressure area to pop up over North Bay of Bengal by the weekend.

This will mean that the active phase of the monsoon would continue locally over North India, while the rains would be less pronounced over Central India, the Peninsula, and the West Coast.

Help from Pacific

Indications are that the chronically rain-deficit Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand may at last be receiving some showers as the current ‘low’ dies out gradually but its remnants interact with the incoming ‘low.’

Storm-infested West Pacific is apparently aiding the monsoon cause here, with models indicating calibrated influx of rain bands from the Pacific and across Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar to North-East India and East India.

There are currently three tropical storms and two tropical depressions hovering over the North-West Pacific and South China Sea along the coasts of Vietnam and East China as well as around the Philippines. The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts sees rains entrenching over rain-deficit States of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and the North-Eastern States from the weekend into the next.

Rains for West UP

Meanwhile, the IMD located the well-marked ‘low’ over North-East Madhya Pradesh by Monday evening and expected it to move west-northwestwards gradually. It will cause cause widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy falls over parts of Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan during the next two to three days.

Heavy rainfall is also likely over the northern parts of Interior Maharashtra and North Gujarat during this period. The 24 hours ending on Monday morning saw heavy to very heavy rain over Chhattisgarh, East Rajasthan and abn the plains of Bengal.

The rains were heavy also over Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka during this period.

As for Tuesday, the IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy falls over West Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan, while it would be heavy to very heavy over East Gujarat.

More for North-West

Heavy rain has also been forecast over Assam, Meghalaya, hills of Bengal, Sikkim, West Coast, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan.
