Pepper arrivals to Kochi terminal market witnessed increased arrivals at 33 tonnes on Friday, even as the prices remained steady at ₹315 per kg.
The produce is mainly from Idukki, as farmers seem to be in a mood to sell. Dealers with limited storage facilities are also bringing stocks to the terminal market, may be for meeting their immediate financial requirement or concerned by the possibilities of a flood-like situation in the high ranges during this monsoon like in the previous years.
However, farmers in Wayanad and Karnataka are not aggressive because of a good demand from Tamil Nadu- based dealers in Gudalur, said Kishore Shamji of Kishor Spices.
The buyers are on a wait-and-watch mode since the off-take at the consuming side have declined due to the shutdowns and declaration of more areas under red zones, he said.
IPSTA Cochin black pepper rate: MG1 ₹335; ungarbled ₹314; 500 G/L: ₹305.
