The arrival of turmeric to the Erode markets hit a new low of 2,000 bags on Monday.“Such lowest arrival is due to the declining price, which is below ₹10,000 a quintal. Many turmeric farmers, expecting increase in price, did not bring their produce and the traders expecting further drop in price procured only fifty per cent of the arrived stock,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
The price of the finger turmeric decreased by ₹200 a quintal, while that of the root variety by ₹100.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,399-9,609 a quintal; the root variety at ₹7,124-8,908. Of the arrival of 732 bags, 290 were sold.
