The price of turmeric increased in all the markets on Friday. At the week-end market, the arrival of turmeric for sale increased to 6,600 bags. Despite such heavy arrivals, the rates improved,due to the quality of the turmeric. Of the total arrival, farmers from rural areas brought 4,500 bags . said Krishnamurthy a trader.

On Friday, good quality finger turmeric increased by ₹700 per quintal at the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard. Similarly, at the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, it rose by ₹400, and at the Regulated Marketing Committee it increased by ₹200 . The root variety also increased by ₹200 in the markets. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, finger turmeric sold at ₹5,169-8,100 per quintal. Root variety was sold at ₹4,905-7,196 per quintal. Out of the 4,350 bags which arrived for sale, 1,992 were sold. At the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,229-7,400 per quintal, while root variety was sold at ₹6,009-7,139 perquintal. From the 1,506 bags that arrived, 1,078 were sold. At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,350-7,500 perquintal, and root variety was sold at ₹5,880-7,000 perquintal. From 911 bags of turmeric that were placed for sale, 636 were sold.
