A whopping 3,800 vehicles ferrying school children were challaned this year for violating traffic regulations, with the maximum number of cases reported in the first fortnight of February.

According to Delhi Police statistics, 1,894 school buses and 1,916 minibuses ferrying students were prosecuted in the capital this year till February 15 for flouting traffic rules, including violation of Supreme Court directions. A senior police official said a driver was also arrested in connection with a non-fatal accident.

“A special drive against school vans and buses involved in overloading and unauthorised vehicles plying began on January 31,” a senior police official said.
