In September, Eastern Railway (ER) loaded 5,270 million tonnes of revenue-earning freight , up 16.67 per cent over 4.517 mt loaded in the same month last year. This was the best-ever September loading performance, according to ER sources.
The share of coal was the largest at 3.488 mt (3.079 mt), registering a growth of 13.28 per cent, largely due to better offerings of coal from both public and private sector coal companies. The other commodities accounted for 1.78 mt (1.44mt), or a growth of 23.9 per cent.
Cumulatively, ER’s first-half (April- September ) loading posted 5.81 per cent growth at 9.852 mt (9.311 mt).The revenue earned during the period amounted to Rs 717.84 crore (Rs 687.5 crore), posting a growth of 4.41 er cent.
