The Department of Municipal Administration and Urban Development has announced fare structure for the proposed Hyderabad metro rail project being developed by L&T.

The project seeks to decongest three dense corridors with a 72 km elevated rail link.

According to the Government order issued on Tuesday, the basic fare for up to 2 km is Rs 8, for more than 2 km and up to 6 km it is Rs 10, more than 6 km and up to 10 km (Rs 12), more than 10-14 km (Rs 14), 14-18 km (Rs 16), more than 18 km (Rs 19) and for unlimited use during the day it is Rs 40.

The Government also notified basic fare for parking at any designated parking area of the rail system. For cars up to 2 hours, Rs 10 would be charged and for every hour in excess of first two hours Rs 5. For motorised two-wheeler up to two hours Rs 4 and for every hour in excess of first two hours, Rs 2 will be charged. The order also provides for revision of basic fares. The concessionaire, L&T has recently announced the financial closure of the project and hinted that it would commence work shortly and take up to 36-42 months to complete phase one of all three corridors.

The order also provides for penal action for violation of these provisions. Employees of the concessionaire on duty and security personnel on duty have been exempted from these fares.
