The Government on Wednesday approved Rs 3,118 crore road projects in Gujarat and Rajasthan under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP).

The projects include six-laning of 102.3 km stretch of Ahemdabad-Vadodara highway in Gujarat and four-laning of the 88 km Kota-Teendhar (Jhalawar) road in Rajasthan.

The cost of the project in Gujarat has been estimated at Rs 2,537 crore with a concession period is 25 years, including construction period of 36 months.

The project, to be executed on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis, covers the districts of Ahmedabad, Kheda, Anand and Vadodara.

“The Ahmedabad-Vadodara section is an important corridor of the Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) which links two major cities of Gujarat leading to Mumbai and other parts of the country. It will also increase the employment potential for the local labourers,” an official statement said.

On the other hand, the Rajasthan project, that entails an investment of Rs 580.79 crore, will also be built on DBFOT basis with a period of 25 years, including construction period of 30 months.

The project falls under Kota and Jhalawar districts of the State.

“The main object of the project is to expedite the improvement of infrastructure in the State of Rajasthan and also in reducing the time and cost of travel for commercial and other traffic plying between Kota and Teendhar (Jhalawar),” the statement said.

Linking cities, towns

It added that the corridor links the major cities of Rajasthan with important cities of Madhya Pradesh.

While the Gujarat project falls under phase V of NHDP, Rajasthan project falls under phase III.
